The right size depends on the type of debris and how much material you expect to load. A 15 yard dumpster works well for small cleanouts and light renovations. A 20 or 30-yard dumpster is ideal for larger projects like roofing, remodeling, or heavy debris. If you are unsure, we can help you choose the best size for your jobsite.
View our dumpster size guide or contact us for a quick recommendation.
Here is a North American sizing chart of various dumpsters we often use.
Commercial Dumpster: The most common dumpster is often seen at retail stores, restaurants, and gas stations.
Residential Dumpster: Often a temporary bin seen in driveways or yards during renovations, moves, or cleanouts. The most common sized residential roll-offs will be the 15 & 20 cubic yard dumpsters.
Roofing Dumpsters: Usually placed in residential driveways or commercial parking lots during tear-outs. Sizes vary on roofing waste material.
Construction Dumpsters: Frequently the choice container for larger residential or commercial renovation, construction demolitions, storm damage restoration, and large yard cleanouts. Construction dumpsters typically range from 20-40 cubic yards.
- 07
A 20-yard roll-off container can hold up to twenty cubic yards of material. This is approximately the same as filling up six pick-up truck beds or equivalent to the size of a suburban with debris. (approx. size: 16 ft. x 8 ft. x 6 ft.)
See the Dumpster Sizing Guide for more information
The residential 20-yard roll-off dumpster is mainly the workhorse of many fleets. The disposal applications include renovations, new builds, yard cleanouts, residential and commercial cleanouts, fire and water damage restoration, and etc.
- 08
Most residential driveways do not require a permit. Placing a dumpster on a public street or right of way may require approval from the city. If you are unsure, we can help you determine whether a permit is needed.
- 09
Roll off containers are allowed in most residential areas without HOA's. If your property is located inside a HOA neighborhood, the owner must obtain a permit in most cases. Sometimes the HOA's have long-term contracts with there own waste management company. In most cases like this, you will have to use the HOA contracted dumpster rental service provider.

A 20-yard roll-off container can hold up to twenty cubic yards of material. This is approximately the same as filling up the beds of six pick-up trucks with debris (Dimensions: 16'L x 8'W x 6'H)

The dumpster can be filled to the top of the wall that is flush with the height of the container. Overfilling is a DOT transportation violation and a safety hazard.
We are unable to transport overfilled roll-off dumpsters.
Common issues with overloaded dumpsters can cause a number of problems for both residential and commercial properties. When a dumpster is overloaded, it can lead to safety hazards, damage to property, and delays in waste removal. Here are some of the common issues that arise when dumpsters are overloaded:
1. Safety hazards: Overloading a dumpster can make it unstable and prone to tipping over. This can pose serious safety risks to anyone nearby, including workers and pedestrians. Additionally, an overloaded dumpster may have items sticking out, which can cause injuries if someone comes into contact with them.
2. Damage to property: Overloaded dumpsters can cause damage to the surrounding area, such as driveways, sidewalks, and landscaping. The weight of the excess waste can also cause the bottom of the dumpster to sag or break, leading to leaks and spills that can further damage property.
3. Difficulties in waste removal: When a dumpster is overloaded, it becomes challenging to remove the waste efficiently. The dumpster may need to be emptied partially before it can be safely lifted and transported, causing delays in waste removal and potentially increasing costs.
4. Violation of regulations: Many cities and municipalities have regulations in place regarding the maximum weight and size of dumpsters.
Overloading a dumpster can result in fines and penalties for violating these regulations.
To avoid these issues, it's essential to properly estimate the amount of waste you will generate and choose the appropriate size dumpster for your needs. Additionally, make sure to distribute the waste evenly within the dumpster and avoid placing heavy items on top of lighter ones. If you find that you have more waste than anticipated, consider renting an additional dumpster or arranging for more frequent waste pickups. By taking these precautions, you can prevent the common issues associated with overloaded dumpsters and ensure a smooth waste removal process.

The following is a breakdown of categories outlining materials prohibited from being disposed of in waste containers and roll-off dumpsters:
Tires: more than 250 million scrap tires are generated annually in the U.S. All tires need to go through a special recycling process instead of being thrown in a landfill.
Paints, Chemicals, and Compounds: including paints, lacquers, and adhesives and even their cans sometimes contain harmful elements. Mercury and lead are the most common culprits.
Pesticides and Fertilizer: both compounds are considered unsafe for most landfills as residues can cause serious environmental harm.
Fuel and Oil: including oils that are used in vehicles and industrial equipment are generally considered to be hazardous.
Various Appliances: including refrigerators, freezers, and AC units (or any device that contains freon).
Asbestos: this is a highly dangerous mineral fiber once used to make construction materials more flame-resistant. Applications included ceilings, roofing, flooring, insulation, and more primarily in structures built before the late 1970s.
Batteries: including alkaline batteries and vehicle batteries. The chemicals, metals, and corrosive materials in batteries can pose a serious threat. This is particularly true for car batteries, which have a lead-acid composition.
Other: including concrete, soil (in some cases), propane tanks, and fluorescent light bulbs
Fuels: petroleum and gasoline are highly flammable and for that reason alone, are banned at landfills. Unusable fuels should be disposed of at a local hazardous waste center.
Food and Medications: including vitamins and dietary supplements.

Hazardous household waste disposal near me.
To dispose of hazardous materials, three simple alternatives:
1. Use it up
2. Give it away
3. Call your city to schedule delivery or pick up
Most cities in the DFW metroplex have environmental collection centers, including Fort Worth.
If you live in Parker, Johnson, Wise, or Erath counties and need hazardous material collection, each city has its own disposal protocol. Go to the city website and follow the instructions. Typically, there is an online form to be completed to disclose the types and quantities of materials to be picked up (or dropped off).
For larger North Texas cities, there are offices Dallas County (Dallas hub), Denton County, and Collin County. Please call (or visit the city website) your city waste department for disposal drop off (or pick up) locations and times.
These locations allow you to dispose of select (websites will commonly provide specifics on eligible items) adhesives, paints, lacquers, florescent light bulbs, pesticides and other common household hazardous materials.
